Managed Print charges

There are two types of balance that can be used to pay for Managed Print usage, these are detailed below.

The Managed Print Portal allows users to view details of their balance, transaction history and recent print jobs.

Local Balance

All Engineering users that are eligible to use the Managed Print Service at Engineering are allocated a departmental balance to pay for usage. This is called the Local Balance.

Note: Printing to the Engineering ENG_FindMe printer will utilise funds from your local balance by default.

Common Balance

For personal print and copy requirements users can buy credit that is then made available for use on Managed Print devices as part of a Common Balance. The Managed Print Portal can be used to view and buy credit for the Common Balance.

Note: Printing to the Managed Print Service DS-Print_FindMe printer will utilise funds from your common balance by default.

How charges are applied

By default, all jobs will be charged to the users Engineering Local Balance if there are funds available. If there is no Local Balance then the user’s Common Balance, if available, will be used instead.

Printing using funds from the Common Balance only

Teaching users that have a limited Local Balance, for example undergraduate students, will have the DS-Print_FindMe printer installed automatically and available to print to in the PaperCut Print Deploy Client. If you do not see this printer listed in the PaperCut Print Deploy Client and you would like to have the option to print using funds from the Common Balance then it can be added manually:

• From the left hand menu in the PaperCut Print Deploy Client select ‘Add printers’
• In the top right of the PaperCut Print Deploy Client, use the ‘search printers, locations’ option to find the DS-Print_FindMe in the list of available printers
• Once the printer is listed, click the ‘Install’ option to add it to ‘My printers’
• The DS-Print_FindMe printer will then be made to select when submitting print jobs
