Introduction
The Department has now replaced its self-service Xerox printers and copiers with Konica Minolta devices that utilise the UIS Managed Print Service, as used by many other Departments and Colleges.
Printer software installation
In order to print to the new devices you will need to install new printer driver software on your computer, PaperCut Print Deploy. Packages and instructions are available here for Windows, Mac and Linux, and the ICS Support Team are able to help with any questions. You can contact them at helpdesk@eng.cam.ac.uk

Printer replacement project background
Please see the initial announcement for additional background.
The project was established to address the following issues with the current printer provision:
- Use of the PaperCut printer/copiers in the Department has declined sharply over time, with some printers now hardly being used at all
- The total cost to the Department is substantial
- The current printers will reach End of Support this year
The key objectives of the replacement project have been to:
- Review usage and consider best use of resources, including in the context of University initiatives relating to space, energy and finance
- Introduce new, more reliable printers for staff and student use
- Significantly reduce the overall number of printers, while maintaining reasonable access to printing across the Department
- Adopt the UIS’s Managed Print Service, which may already be familiar from its use in Colleges
- Continue to enforce user ‘log in’ with University Cards
- Simplify the charging model so that use of the new printers will be free by default
- Retain the option for personal printing from a personal account that can be funded by online top-ups
