There are a number of tools available from the University to be able to support you working from home. This page provides a short guide for staff at the Department of Engineering.
Official University guidance on working from home can be found at https://universityofcambridgecloud.sharepoint.com/sites/StaffHub/SitePages/Remote-working.aspx.
Microsoft Teams
Teams is a recommended and supported online collaboration tool for the University. Teams is integrated with Microsoft 365 and brings together everything you need to collaborate with groups of colleagues in one online workspace via chats, groups, video calls and document sharing.
More information can be found on the Microsoft Teams at Cambridge Hub
For support with installing and using Teams or any other Microsoft software please contact helpdesk@eng.cam.ac.uk in the first instance.
Telephone
Microsoft Teams is also the recommended solution for managing fixed phone lines remotely. You can also manage call-forwarding and voicemail on your telephone extension by visiting https://my.phone.cam.ac.uk/myphone/
Please contact helpdesk@eng.cam.ac.uk for more information.
Both Exchange Online and Hermes mail boxes are available remotely via web browser. Please refer to https://help.eng.cam.ac.uk/email/ for more details.
Remote systems access/VPN
If you require access to any University/Departmental systems services (e.g. CUFS, EDDA) or your own desktops/computing systems, you will need to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection. More information on setting this up can be found at https://help.eng.cam.ac.uk/network/remote-access
Software
Alongside Teams, University staff have access to the Microsoft 365 software packages such as Word and Excel (https://help.uis.cam.ac.uk/service/collaboration/office365) and also some useful applications from within Google Workspace (https://help.uis.cam.ac.uk/service/collaboration/workspace) for use on their personal devices to support remote working.
Departmental software license details can be found at https://help.eng.cam.ac.uk/software/
Equipment
Access to a computer and ideally a webcam and a headset is as much as you will likely need to work from home effectively. Please get in touch with av-support@eng.cam.ac.uk if you would like some recommendations for webcams, headsets, microphones etc. though bear in mind that most laptops come with built in microphones and cameras.
Do remember to adhere to the Official University guidance of home working found at https://universityofcambridgecloud.sharepoint.com/sites/StaffHub/SitePages/Remote-working.aspx
