Incoming Access
All telephone extensions allow Direct Dialling In (DDI) access from the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).
Usage Guidelines
In large open plan areas, for example Teaching Laboratories, Restricted access is appropriate to help guard against phone abuse. The use of Local access may be suitable for shared student rooms where Restricted access is insufficient. National access, in particular where Business Hours only restrictions are also in place, is appropriate for research or adminstrative offices where contact with collaborators and suppliers outside the local area is required. The use of International access should only be permitted in secure offices where the nature of the work being undertaken requires this level of access. An example may be a senior member of academic staff or divisional administrator where contact overseas is a requirement.
Note: | Requests to change the class of service on an individual telephone extension should be sent to the IT Helpdesk. When requesting a change to National or International access the request will need to be supported by a senior member of staff or project supervisor. |
