Cisco VoIP Decommissioning
Since 2008 the Department’s telephone system has been provided by UIS as part of the wider University Telephone Network (UTN) that utilises Cisco Voice over IP (VoIP) as the underlying technology.
With the planned switch off of the Cisco VoIP infrastructure in 2028 work is now underway to migrate telephony services to Microsoft Teams.
Support for the Cisco VoIP system will continue in the short term with the following caveats:
- If issues arise with any Cisco extension or handset, the default position will be to migrate to Microsoft Teams.
- UIS no longer provide new telephone extensions on the Cisco VoIP system. If there is a requirement for a new telephone then this will be via Microsoft Teams.
