These requirements cover all hosted machines for which ICS is responsible, whether located in Departmental server rooms or in UIS-managed data centres. We expect that equipment meeting these ICS requirements will also meet both SWCR SRF and UIS requirements for equipment hosted in their facilities.
Form factor
- At least two power supply units
- At least two network interfaces
- Additional network interface for out-of-band management
- Network, power and other ports to be located on the rear of the machine
- Must be rack-mountable with standard 19″ rack fixings and intended for installation in a data centre environment
- 10G network capability (desirable)
Support
- New machines should be purchased with next-business-day on-site warranty for at least 5 years.
- Machines that remain in use beyond the initial warranty period should have a third-party service agreement in place, likewise providing next-business-day on-site support.

All features and information must be confirmed and provided to ICS in advance of purchasing a new machine. Any existing equipment proposed for hosting should normally meet the above requirements and be under 5 years old.
Availability of rack space and agreement to host a machine should not be assumed, and they will be confirmed if appropriate following a request that includes the information above.
