Important Note: If you are already connected to the network at Engineering, either via a wired connection or via wireless to the CUED wireless network, then you will be unable to connect to the VPN Service. This behaviour is to be expected. As you are already connected to the internal Engineering network you should not require a VPN connection to access internal network resources.
The Engineering Managed VPN Service is made available as part of the University Information Services (UIS) Managed VPN Service for Institutions and generic guidance on how to correctly configure clients is provided by UIS.
Once your request to access the Engineering Managed VPN Service has been processed login access using a UIS Network Access Token will be enabled.
To create a UIS Network Access Token for the device you will be using to connect to the Engineering Managed VPN Service please visit:
When configuring the Engineering Managed VPN Service connection the following should be substituted at the relevant points in the UIS documentation:
- Your username will need to match the one used for your device from the tokens page, for example abc123+laptop@cam.ac.uk as oppose to abc123@cam.ac.uk
- The hostname of the VPN server should be changed from vpn.uis.cam.ac.uk to vpn.eng.cam.ac.uk
- Where a server certificate is required as part of a connection configuration the required certificate file for the Engineering Managed VPN Service server is available here.
- On Apple devices where a connection profile is required the Engineering Managed VPN Service profile can be found here.
