Research storage is a service provided by UIS at competitive pricing. It is suitable for:
- Large active data sets.
- Frequent access.
- High performance.
- General-purpose storage.
- High-value data sets that require extra protection and are accessed frequently.
- Data that do not require frequent access and can accept high latency retrieval time.
It is offered in three options: research data store, research file store, and research cold store.
Research Data Store (RDS)
The Research Data Store (RDS) is ideal for research groups that wish to store data on an enterprise storage platform that is optimised for performance and cost. RDS is directly available on the central HPC platforms and can be used for data processing on CSD3.
For more information please go to Research Data Store (RDS).
Research File Share (RFS)
Research File Share (RFS) provides large scale, enterprise-grade storage for Cambridge research data associated with principal investigators. It is suitable for research groups working on data sets that need high integrity, protection and accessibility. In particular, this service delivers a highly resilient storage solution that provides snapshots to allow fast recovery of lost files.

Research Cold Store (RCS)
The UIS’s Research Cold Store (RCS) service provides enterprise-grade storage that allows users to store large amounts of infrequently accessed research data. Its features have been designed to balance the need to protect data in accordance with its value and longevity against prohibitive costs.
